Ramblers Retreat is a family run business specialising in home from home holiday cottage letting. It was launched in September 2024 and has been offering a peaceful and tranquil environment to guests from all over the world ever since its renovation.
This charming self catering cottage is over 100 years old and is built out of stone. It combines a traditional look on the outside with a modern twist on the inside. There are 2 bedrooms (one with an en-suite) and the second containing a cloak room with toilet and sink. There is a family bathroom on the ground floor with a bath.
Centrally located
Hop on hop off buses and Windermere train station (7 minutes walk away) means that even without a car it is perfectly placed base to explore the beautiful Lake district National Park.

Very comfortable beds, very clean property with everything you need to self cater. Location was excellent in easy walking distance on Windemere shops & restaurants. Although parking was on the street, it was always easy to find a space nearby, often right outside.

A wonderful short break in the beauty of the Lake District, even in the rain.
Ramblers Retreat is a beautifully presented house, comfortable, well-equipped and spotlessly clean. Both bedrooms are ensuite, which was huge bonus as the main bathroom is downstairs. We found the corner shop very useful. The house is a short walk to Windermere’s high street and shops; longer to the rail station and Bowness (for the boats) but there are plenty of buses running up and down the hill. The area is quiet and the neighbours cheerful. We decided to travel without a car to avoid congesting the Lake District roads. There were frequent buses to wherever we wanted to go and the option of the lake ferry and cruise boats. The information centre at the train station has details of interesting short local walks which the all-day hiker might overlook. There are also maps and leaflets in the house.
The bed in the blue room is fitted close to the adjacent walls. I did get used to this after the first night stubbing my toe to get out of bed, but it’s probably best to be warned. There are no grab rails in the ensuite shower or bath/shower downstairs. I always hope for these when using unfamiliar facilities; I don’t always find them.

A lovely place for a relaxing stay
The cottage is in a great location close to the village centre and within walking distance of the fells. It was well equipped with everything we needed and had a very peaceful feel. The beds were very comfy and we had a great nights sleep. Our host was great, quick to reply and very helpful. We will definitely be back again.
